Till recently the Carbon filtration was enough to protect the soldiers from the threats of chemical and biological threats. But with the advancement in the "chemical warfare agents" a new threat is looming large that is known as the Carbon breakers. Again Pressure Swing Adsorption the remarkable technology has been found to be productive against this type of agents. This is because of the PSA's ability to remove chemical warfare vapors, including carbon breaker class of compounds.
However, a PSA system works best if wholly integrated with environmental control system, So that the final product air that is supplied to the crew of a tank, aircraft, or marine vessel is not only free of chemical contaminants, but is also temperature controlled.

A PSA system demands a source of pressurized air for operation, so do the air cycle machine-based environmental operating and control system. Such pressurized air can be made available from either "bleed air" provided by the engine or from a compressor if bleed air is not available. To sum it up, PSA technology is an hi-tech solution against Nuclear Biological Chemical(NBC) threats.
